Westminster blues
Seems the pressure's getting to Norman Baker.
In the latest issue of Viva Lewes, he bemoans the difficulty of trying to be in Westminster and in his constituency at the same time.
"I invariably get it in the neck from someone if there's a key vote in Westminster and an important event locally on at the same time," he wails before revealing that his view is "that MPs are spending more and more time in their constituencies and correspondingly less in Westminster".
That no doubt explains Norman Baker's below average voting record in Parliament.

This site is getting a bit dodge - I sent a comment a couple of weeks ago to the effect that, say what you will, as far as MPs go Baker is a pretty good one. And I'm not a LibDem member. Censored?

Yes, this is a good reason why Norman hasn't voted in 100% of votes. Would you rather that he ignored a local event to vote in some meaningless division that the Govt was guaranteed to win? Is that the sort of MP you want? One who sits in the Commons and never visits his constituency?
Newhaven is Best - It might be a bit traditionalist but surely the job of an MP is to represent his constituency in Parliament - hence the title member of parliament. If he wants to open village fetes for a living he doesn't need to get paid £60k a year.
No one expects a 100% record but given that his seat is close to London he should at least have a voting record slightly above average.
And as for the point about divisions he can't win in, well that's the life he signed up to when he became a lib dem
Time for Norm to put his cards on the table. Dual Carriageway for A27 and relieve the grief for his constituents. This is the BIG ISSUE which he must address without any further prevarication. He should put aside his pursuit of conspiracies theories about Dr Kelly and Freedom of Information matters. He should focus upon issues which his constituents are really concerned about like the A27 and not those which will 'line his pocket'.
